Since 1995 the Melbourne based collaborative group Damp has produced various performance, video, installation and sculptural artworks, which have addressed the relationships between art and audiences in both a thought provoking and irreverent fashion. Over this period they have often borrow forms located outside of art such as sport, carnival, protest, fan culture and amateurism as bridging devices bringing audiences and their experience of art closer together. Damp’s work Scene 1 was recently featured in the project gallery and collection of the Heide Museum of Modern Art Melbourne and in the large survey style group exhibition of art groups Group group show, in which they also curated, at the Victorian College of the Art Margaret Lawrence Gallery Melbourne 2008. In 2007 their work was featured in Overcoming Loathing a pamphlet series curated by Natural Selection magazine. As well, they have participated in many important exhibitions including: Bartertown Uplands Gallery, Melbourne (2006) Big in Japan, Gallery Side 2, Tokyo (2006); Short ride in a fast machine, 20-year anniversary exhibition of Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, Melbourne (2005); Together Again, with A Constructed World, Basekamp Gallery, Philadelphia, USA (2005); I Thought I Knew But I Was Wrong - New Video Art from Australia, various venues including Chulalongkorn University Gallery Bangkok, Millennium Monument Beijing and Ssamziespace Seoul (2004); Concern, Cemeti Art House, Yogyakarta, Indonesia and the Victorian College of the Arts Gallery (2004); Feedback: Art and social resistence, Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne (2003); and Construction In Process IV: The Bridge, Melbourne. For Revolutions forms that turn Damp collaborated with artists Kresna Cameron, Chad Creighton, Nicole Foreshew, Moses Gibson, Nadia Itaywi, Glen Pilkington, Marika Smith and Christian Thompson. Thanks to Christian Thompson, Annie Wilson and the MHUL 2 program 2008 at ACMI Melbourne. Damp currently consists of artists Dan Cass, Robert Creedon, Narelle Desmond, Sharon Goodwin, Meg Hale, Ry Haskings, Mark Hislop, Deb Kunda, James Lynch, Lisa Radford and Nat Thomas. Damp are represented by Uplands Gallery Melbourne.
